What to monitor beyond uptime

Uptime answers “is the server there?”. Customers care about “can I do what I came to do?”. Here are five things worth checking beyond availability.

1. Critical user flows. Sign-in, search, add to cart, contact form. Pick the three that would hurt most if they broke.
2. Content presence. Prices, legal notices, cookie banners, structured data. Things that disappear quietly after a deployment.
3. API contracts. Required fields exist, types are right, errors use the documented format.
4. Data freshness. The newest record in a feed or report is recent. A stale feed is a failure even if the endpoint responds instantly.
5. Asynchronous steps. Webhooks, emails and background jobs that complete after the request — measure how long they take.

Start small

You do not need dozens of checks. One test of your most important flow, run every few minutes, catches a large share of real incidents. Add more as you learn where your system actually breaks.
